Police officer uses kayak to rescue struggling dog trapped in muddy NJ pond !

A New Jersey police officer saw a dog stuck neck-deep  in a muddy pond and trying to keep her head above water. So the policeman commandeered a kayak to save the puppy and brought it safely to shore!

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. – Jersey police officer paddled a kayak to the center of a pond to rescue a dog stuck neck-deep within the muck.

Washington officers skilled a dog in distress and located Akela, a gray boxer / mastiff, fighting in the water, the department announced on Facebook on Wednesday.

Officer John Kuligowski commandeered a close-by kayak and paddled bent Akela.  Videos show Kuligowski trying to place a kayak next to Akela and pull her to safety. he is unable to drag her into the kayak, but eventually leads her to coast.

Chief Thomas Cicerelle and Officer Dallas Overko provided additional rescue assistance, the post said.

Akela was uninjured and even posed for a few photos along with her three lifeguards on shore.

Akela was in elation after her ordeal and even posed for a couple of quick pictures before being turned over to Animal Control Solutions,” the department said.

Before he ended up in the pond, Akela got lost. . Police still haven’t located Akela’s owners.

Police have requested that anyone who knows the owners of Akela  to possess them contact either Animal Control Solutions at (908) 722-1271 or the Washington Township Police.
