Trail camera captures the first howls of a sweet tiny wolf pup

A wild animal needs social and communicative skills to survive in the wilderness, even if they are born with instincts.Speaking of animal communication skills, there are a few species whose vocalization are not just highly distinctive, but even emblematic. And you must admit, it’s impossible to mistake a lion’s roar or a wolf’s howl. But even these fearless beasts still have to learn how to do it properly.

One of the cutest videos I’ve ever seen shows a young wolf pup howling for the very first time, and it is quite impressive for a pup its age. Its voice is already so imposing, though it’s just a little too sharp and loud.

A trail camera set by the Voyageurs Wolf Project has caught a picture of a little wolf roaming around in Minnesota’s Voyageurs National Park. The group has been studying the behavior of wolves there. The group has recently revealed a video of a 4-week-old wolf howling in the middle of the forest. It has been the very first time, the tiny animal practiced its vocal skills.

“Listen to some of this wolf pup’s first howls from only a few weeks ago! ” the group wrote. “A little warning: The pup is pretty loud for only being 4-weeks old!” Take a peek:

“Wolves howl for more reasons than we’ll ever know,” National Geographic reports. “They even have daily howling choruses with their own packs, which can be one way of strengthening member bonds.”
