When ilovemydogsomuch discovered Stella the homeless dog on the streets of Texas crying for food, she was heavily pregnant.
When North Fork Animal Welfare League (NFAWL) learned about Stella, they immediately opened up their doors to her. The desolate pooch lived under cars as a shelter and appeared to be in a state of anxiety over the fate of her unborn puppies.
A vet checkup performed by the NFAWL staff revealed that Stella’s litter will arrive within the next 2 weeks judging by the size of the puppies in the X-ray. Therefore, the workers made Stella comfortable in a quiet, cozy room in the shelter until the puppies arrive. Little did they know she would be going into labor the very next morning!
Fortunately, Stella’s stress-free labor was induced by the feeling of safety and security at the shelter, where the workers watched over her as she delivered eight puppies in a short period of time. Being the shelter’s first litter in over 20 years, this was definitely a gratifying moment for everybody!
The shelter has reached out to the public for financial aid to help them do justice to the weakened mama and her litter. Stella needs extra nutrition to be able to raise her puppies well, while the cost of vaccinating and spaying/neutering the litter is also going to be high.
