Among all debilitating illnesses and catastrophes, losing one’s sense of purpose or desire to live has to be one of the most terrifying experiences for any living being. ilovemydogsomuch writes
Dora the dog had a similar sense of terror when she was initially found by the “Howl Of A Dog” rescuers. Dora was residing in a public pound after being rescued from the streets, but her lack of zeal and subdued demeanor worried me.
Nobody knew what Dora’s life had been like previously, but she was uninterested in playing or connecting with anyone. Her eyes were permanently troubled, as if she had forgotten the purpose of life, and her hunchback posture was as unnerving. She would always hunch her spine and walk with her head down low in shame, her tail tucked between her knees.
Howl Of A Dog rescued Dora and brought her to their shelter, where she was found to be underweight and suffering from several skin diseases. However, the workers had a tough time dealing with her overwhelming depression and hopelessness. She was so utterly broken that she would crumble down like a house of cards every time a worker petted her.
Despite Dora’s forlorn posture, the employees would not give up and continued to make loving gestures to reassure her that she was being saved and cared for. After two weeks, she finally allowed her frozen heart to open to the vague hope that things were improving for the better. Her play-dates with other dogs, field trips, and car rides evolved into therapy sessions that changed her attitude on life!
Dora’s transformation from a shut-down dog to a life-loving dog is documented in this video. It’s one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen to watch her rediscovering her ability to dream. Dora’s long-held desire to find a permanent home was realized when she was adopted by an English family! Her parents adore her, and her Labrador sibling protects her like a big brother. We are overjoyed for this wonderful young lady!
