Rare footage shows 40 ton humpback whale leaping entirely out of the water

Many people dream about having the opportunity to get to see a whale leap entirely out of water and expose its magnificent body, but few people actually get to experience it in real life. Well, the lucky man who recorded the video below did, and fortunately, he decided to share the incredible footage with the world.

During a hunt for sardines in Pondoland, South Africa, Craig Capehart and three other scuba divers came across a wonderful sight. A clear, crisp, cold day greeted them, but they didn’t expect to see any action, so when they witnessed a humpback whale breaching a few times they were all blown away.

While that alone would be exciting enough, the whale gave them one last show before disappearing into the depths of the ocean. Craig and his colleagues were left with mouths wide open after the whale leapt completely out of the water. Recalling that incredible moment, Craig said that what he saw that day was “a very rare event indeed.”
