Tim Jansen van Vuuren was leading a group through the MalaMala Game Reserve in Kruger National Park in South Africa when he made an uncommon sighting; Right there before his eyes was a rare pink baby elephant!
Leucism, a disorder that differs from albinism in that it causes a partial lack of pigmentation, is assumed to be the cause of the hue. When the safari ranger came upon the calf, he had the impression that he was in a children’s movie. The youngest member of the herd, the mammal was surrounded by her family as she joyfully played in the expanse of green grass. She was only two or three weeks old at the time. It was very amazing to witness, and thankfully it was recorded on camera so that everyone could see it.
