In heartwarming pictures, stray puppies snuggle up to a newborn abandoned by her parents.
Her umbilical cord was still attached when she was found naked in a field in Chattisgarh, India. Akanksha is now known as Akanksha.
Upon stumbling across her, shocked locals claim that freezing winter temperatures could easily have killed her.
There are stray dogs in the area that are known to be vicious, and thus the baby’s survival has been dubbed a ‘miracle’.
A baby’s cries caught the attention of local representative Munnalal Patel as he headed out to do chores one morning.
The boy said: ‘We found a newborn baby lying alongside puppies in our village crying at 11 in the morning.
‘We panicked and informed the health department before the newborn was taken to the hospital for further checkup.’
Amazingly, doctors found the little one was completely unscathed.
Another local said: ‘It’s possibly the warmth from puppies and their mother itself who had kept this newborn alive.
In December, temperatures usually dip at night. I think it’s pure luck for her.’
In an area where stray dogs lurk every now and then at night, a resident named Premnath said: ‘It is a miracle to find a newborn baby surviving.’
An investigation has been launched to find Akanksha’s parents after she was referred to the Child Line Project.
Special DG RK Vij, a senior IPS officer with the Chhattisgarh Police, said he was shocked by the incident.
